In January 2024, several club leaders in the Northeastern community received emails from the Center of Student Involvement informing them that they would have to vacate their office spaces on the second floor of Curry Student Center. The clubs had to take it upon themselves to find alternate working spaces, as the displacement was part of larger university plans to renovate the current spaces at Curry. Some of these clubs include Tastemakers Magazine, NUTV, Spectrum Literary Arts Magazine and many others.
Armaan Sarao, NUTV
"CSI and NU PREF were not going to help us secure another office. It took a lot of fighting for us to find another space."
Trevor Gardemal, Tastemakers Magazine
"We had to throw out several old issues of the magazine while moving out, and that was a big blow to us."
Alexander, NU Robotics
"We have around 300 members in the club and our lab can barely hold members for one project at a time."
We spoke with the president of Tastemakers Magazine, Trevor Gardemal, on his experience of the displacement and how the club worked through that transition.
For Armaan Sarao, the current president of NUTV, news of the displacement came as a total surprise as NUTV was notified weeks after most of the other clubs in Curry. Sarao and other club leaders led a months-long search for a new space.
